This is a mild account of reunion meet that I figured over phone.
Last night(US time) we spoke to several people while they are gathering in the campus. Some folks hardly slept for couple hours. Rajsekhar(ECE) was driving people crazy. Prasad helped him till 1:30 in the night but at 3:00 in the morning Suman banged his door, time to pickup people from nearby train stations. KK etc arrived early in the morning. Some reached at Ramachandrapuram.
People spoke with high energy. I sampled in the morning afternoon and now in the late evening. Everybody was praising the arrangements. Kudos to all involved. I spoke to some spouses as well- they were very impressed with the close friendship and affection among the group. Moms said it was inspiring to the kids.
It started with meet and greet at the breakfast. All moved to the assembly tent area and everybody introduced themselves. Over phone I could hear Suman, Prasad, and Ramesh introductions. The speakers were really loud. Following the introductions there was a long session of group photo. No one wanted to talk to us midst the high energy activity but at my request Ramesh left his phone on. From the tent they walked over the campus to the auditorium where rest of the activities took place. From what I heard this was a great experience for kids and spouses more than the alumni. They paid tribute to lost friends followed by alumni family slide show and a magic show.
I didn't cover much of lunch. But heard kids enjoyed the afternoon session very well. They left the campus in the evening to their lodging. Prasad was exhausted of sleeplessness and day-long excitement but was eager to go to the dinner party at the campus. This was arranged just outside the campus to allow for drinks for high spirited folks.
Samir says things are going extremely well. He never anticipated this amount of energy, show of affection, happiness in the group. Raju says he never felt happier. I was not able to get to Ramesh Chakravarthy and many others, it is understandable; no one talks for over a minute. Don't be a pest, I got to go, they say.
Feel free to write your experiences here so they all stay at one place for us to come back and read in the future.
Best,
GK

Ramana here :Thanks a lot GK. Atleast you were kind enough to be Sanjaya for this blind fellow!
ReplyDeleteThanks GK for the update. Feeling so sad for missing it. Can't think anything other than reunion since yesterday. Wish there is some live telecast.
ReplyDeleteHerewith I try to report on the happenings at re-union meet for the benefit of all our friends whose body is present elsewhere due to other commitments but mind is fully present at the meet.
ReplyDelete31.07.2010
All gathered at the tents near the main Admin. building around 8:30 AM. Some more friends with their spouses and children started trickling in and the crowd was getting bulged. All the members were asked to register their names at registration counter and each was given a kit, which contains the programme sheet, tucked in a beautiful folder, a cap, a T-shirt and a memento all with reunion logo. The T-shirt is so beautiful that all of us wanted to wear it then and there itself, but were prevented by a note in the programme sheet that the T-shirts are to be worn on the next day during felicitation programme. Then individuals started introducing themselves along with their families over breakfast. After introduction all members with their families posed for a group photo with Admin. building as backdrop. After this photo session, we started walking through the beautiful campus. The caps in the kit have come handy for walking in the hot sunny conditions. It was noticed that there is a lot of change in the campus with induction of a lot of new buildings and good roads but at the expense of thick greenery, which we used to relish, while going to class rooms from hostel. Some of the departments such as Civil, Mechanical have a complete new look with additional blocks added up.
Around 11:00, we all, except the intellectual group among us (Samir, RC, Raju etc.) have reached the Auditorium. The intellectual group had gone to the AC auditorium in Civil dept. for sharing their experiences post college period with the students at an interactive session. Since the same intellectual group happens to be the organizing group also, the curtain raising function, which was supposed to have started at 11:00 got delayed. But nobody had any complaint as everybody was busy in catching up the things with others and did not even notice that there was a delay. Around 12:00, the new members, who had missed their introduction at the tents, introduced themselves along with their family members to the audience. After this, the gathering was informed about five of our good friends, who left us in hurry to reach the abode of god. This changed the mood of the gathering and the photographs of these friends shown on the screen added more somber to the ambience. We observed two minute silence in respect of these bereaved souls.
The cheerful mood was once again brought to the ambience by making a journey through our old photos, displayed on the screen, which brought all sweet memories back. While everybody was fully immersed in this joy, without noticing that lunch time had crossed, the organizers reminded that food was waiting for us.

After food, it was fun time with mimicry, fun games and songs. Mainly this programme was aimed in engaging the spouses and children as no member seem to be interested in paying attention what is going on around except chatting, chatting and chatting with old friends. As ever, the children gelled very fast without any introductions and started to convert everything as their play grounds in and around the auditorium. Even the spouses also appeared to be got fully engaged with the ongoing fun games as there was no (reported) complaint that they got bored while the members completely forgot their presence there. Tea and snacks were served on time and the gathering consumed the same without noticing what they were eating and drinking as everybody was travelling in the past in time machine. During this time some of the members made it a point in visiting the nearby Nalanda hostel, where they had spent their first year of college life.
ReplyDeleteAround 17:00 hrs. the gathering dispersed to freshen up and to get ready for the grand event in the evening. Around 1930 hrs. the evening session started with a magic show and orchestra. But most of the members were itching to show their talent before their beloved ones and finally pushed the orchestra group aside to occupy the center stage. The children started dancing to some of hit tunes and everybody got mesmerized with their performance. A special mention has to be made regarding the performance of the daughter of Appala Naidu (Nalla). Immediately after the performance, the proud father could not stop himself in going on to the stage and blessed her with kisses (Putrikothsahamu) amidst the deafening applaud from the audience. Not left behind are the children of the Hyderabad group members. I was told that they had engaged a choreographer and practiced day and night for this show. Kudos to their enthusiasm. However, the rocking performance of the evening was dance sequences by ANR, NTR and Chiranjeevi. No, no, no, the tollywood stars had not come to give performance, but our friends enacted their roles, which made the entire gathering to go on their feet and applaud incessantly for entire fifteen minutes. I won’t reveal who had enacted whom and I leave it to your imagination till the videos are uploaded. The gifts were distributed for all the artists and after this only, the gathering came to senses that it was already past 22:00 hrs and they had not taken dinner. One group of the members were itching and moving impatiently in their seats as there were no signs of any hot drinks. But they got relief when they were informed that special arrangements had already been made in a nearby building (Engineers Association building). Silently, one by one started slipping from the auditorium to find others already on the go in that building. These members were oblivious to the happenings in the auditorium, where around 23:00 hrs., the families were dropped at hotels.
A heavy downpour at that point of time brought much needed relief to the sultry atmosphere. But the organizers were the worried lot as it posed threat to the next day’s morning beach programme. At one point, they thought of cancelling the beach programme, but after a round of discussions, decided to go with the scheduled programme, even if it was raining. The other batch members who were already on high spirits are obviously oblivious to these developments.

ReplyDeleteThe organizers were much skeptical that the members with their families start from their hotels at 6:30 AM in the morning, as everybody was dead tired on the previous day. Contrary to the expectations, all of the members reported well before 6:30 hrs at the pick-up point and what a start on a friendship day. All the members, spouses and children enjoyed on the beach. Some were doing sunbath, some were having fun with water, some were playing beach volley ball. Meantime, hot breakfast was served and after this a tug of war contest between branches started with civil and electrical in the first round. The royal civil won this contest hands down with mighty people like Edukondalu, Raja in their kitty. Electronics and Mechanical were getting ready for next round of contest but the organizers poured water on the contest as it was already getting late for the next programme. All the members were dropped at their hotels to be picked up again by 1100 hrs for felicitating the Gurus. As expected, all the invitees (teachers) had arrived at the auditorium on time but true to our reputation during college days, only handful members were there by that time. Slowly, the gathering picked up with all the members in white T-shirts with reunion logo and it was a sight to watch. Finally, the felicitation programme started at 1200 hrs. with beautiful anchoring by Samir with the support of individual department volunteers. Photos of department wise members along with their peers were captured. Some of the professors gave their messages and by the time all this was completed, it was 1430 hrs. All the members had taken a quick lunch break to gather again to discuss on forward path from this point.
It is better to leave to the Committee members to reveal what has been deliberated and agreed upon during this meeting and I sign off here.
Regards.

I forgot to mention that along with ANR, NTR and Chiranjeevi, Savitri also performed which left the audience spell bound. Sorry for missing it earlier.

Hello
ReplyDeleteJust came back from the re-union in Kakinada. I do not think i can convey what i want to say in any of the three languages that i know of. But here is my 2cent attempt at it.
Overall, it was a fantabulous event and kudos to everyone involved (directly or in-directly) in making this happen. I know i am repeating what others already said, but after being there and experiencing the two days, it definately needs a mention.
I have seen and experienced - tremendous joy, smiling faces all over, positive energy in abundance, unconditional affection to each other, reminiscing old memories, 40yrs behaving & acting like 20 yrs, and the list goes on.....
It was really great to be part of a gathering where so much of positive energy is flowing all over you. Now back to our usual schedules in life .....
So long

Dear One and All:
ReplyDeleteOur re-union meet went off like a cracker and it sure brought a spark and zest to our lives. Loads of fun and frolic with renewed acquaintances all combining to form a heady mix; in one word the event was a BLAST.
And, I felt a bit despondent that I couldn't be part of the second day celebrations; sometimes the dice doesn't fall your way and you've got to take it on the chin.
Lots of people have said it but it sure wouldn't hurt to say that Raju, Raj Shekhar (ECE), Rangadham, Anuradha & Anuradha, Suthram, Raj (Samyam), Samir, my good ole buddy Siva Kumar did a SUPER TERRIFIC JOB. CONGRATULATIONS and GAZILLIONS of THANKS to all of you for the untiring, relentless and painstaking effort and planning.
Due apologies to all others whom I may have inadvertently missed, but formed the core group who pulled off such a stunning event.
And I got to know some guys very well with whom I had no interaction during our college days - Anil Dayakar who helped me rush back to Hyderabad in an emergency springs immediately to my mind. (Btw, Anil, your account in the Souvenir was truly stunning - Mighty impressed with what you're doing in life to help others, mate)
And the Souvenir came out very well - It is a book that stands to be cherished throughout our life time.
I do hope that folks don't lose interest in the group that we created. The surge of positive energy will take a nose-dive but I hope that we stabilise and sustain it in the years ahead.
Cheers
Vijay
It was a family get-together,as it has got none of the ingredients of a college re-union.The energy/synergy apart I would call it a CONFLUENCE,rather than re-union because it was a perfect homogeneous congregation and was a really great event.
ReplyDeleteIt was marvelously conceived by our PRIME MOVER-cum-ENGINE of the re-union(who....?......munjeti kankanamu na kadda mela....Ra)
Got some interesting observations :
1.LORD KRISHNA: Our Rangadham played the role of Lord Krishna lifting Govardhan Parvatham to save people from Stone Storm. Our guy has personally took at least 100 people one by one ,with the lone umbrella he got, from Auditorium steps to the Bus when it was raining cats and dogs.
2.STAR OF THE SHOW:No marks for guessing who it is…….our Kattempudi(…..looks like it is rhyming with nandamuri?)Rajasekhar.Bahusaaa mana vaaadiki NTR poonesi vuntaadu………otherwise it is impossible!!!
3.LADY STAR OF THE SHOW:Same……..no marks for guessing it right!!! Got to be one and only one ELECTRIC-ANURADHA,who has jolted the audience with her electrifying dance, which came as a surprise entry into the agenda.
4.NAA PILUPE PRABHANJANAM……..Kaaadu kaaadu Naa daaanse prabhanjanam:Probably people were surprised that a man with truck load of tensions and wagon load of responsibilities can move with such a lightning speed resembling ANR.The audience energy levels reached to such a peak which can only be compared to the energy levels of FIRST-DAY-FIRST-SHOW of Chiranjeevi new release.I suspect our SEETA Maata(Latha) should have felt jealous seeing how the audiences loved him.
5.ABBA NEE TEEYANEE DEBBA:Mana Samayam Rajasekhar heroine bugga meeda Gulaabi thattina vidham chooste…….intlo godavalu ayyipogalavvv!!!
6.EPPUDOOOOOO NUVVENA??? Omkar is still popular among Narmada Hostelers…………how come??? During 85-89,I thought it was due to his pink cheeks. And ofcourse I was wrong.
7.PAAPAM TELLA APPALA NAIDU:Couple-Skipping lo kadala leka povadam choosi Madhuri etthukuni teesuki vachcchesindi.
8.THE KILLER:His eyes and the killing looks are still the same.Wanted to share a small, funny secret with him,but couldn’t get a chance. Will try during Silver Jubilee in 2014.
9.FATLESS BODY,TIMELESS MIND:Probably might have made millions in US enlightening people on “How to maintain a Fatless body”…….who is this???...........SAMEER.
10.MAN IN DISGUISE:This poor guy has taken GK’s warning(to take level-1 security) too seriously.Subbaraju maintained low profile.
Sivakumar
There is only one sentence I want to add...
ReplyDeleteNA BHOOTHO NA BHAVISHYATHI...!
Wholeheartedly......Hats off to the women and men in the organization committee! I can prettty much say we will be indebted to you folks in this life as presently I dont see anything we can do to match if not exceed to what you did!
- Ramesh Dhulipala (D V Ramesh Chandra Babu ECE 85K446)
11.IF TIME STOPS:If time stopped after 1989,everyone of us would look as young as MAYA.
ReplyDelete12.THE SUNSILK SHAMPOO GIRL:Come on Sailaja, leave your word for all the balding uncles of our batch including me.
13.PADMASREE:Yoga or Aerobics???What keeps you the way you are?
14.LADY VIKRAMARKA with all her sweet nature could easily be mistaken for a Villain. She curtails the swimming time, she curtails the playing time…….as she was responsible for meeting the time-targets…..Blame it on RAJU.
15.BLAME IT ON ELECTRICAL GIRLS:Lalitha sang like a Nightingale. We missed her voice during the college days.Blame it on other girls.
16.BHAGAVAN KK had tough time escaping the greedy disciples like me who are after his divine skills for a magical conversion of rupees into dollars!!!
17.POTTI RAMESH had forgotten to pay my photographic charges for taking his the semi-nude photos in wet clothes as he was bathing in the sea and was posing like Bo Derek and Samantha Fox of yester years instead of J Lo(Jennifer Lopez). And ofcourse carrying charges for holding his Camera are extra.Payments are acceptable in dollars.
18.TINTOO was found playing ring with girls,in the beach.Yeaaar Tintoo ……your face was more like writing a complicated computer program and YOU did not look like you are playing……………Do you need to play like work?
19.KAMLESH has done a great thing by roping in T.SRINIVAS.And for Srinivas,no words for me because I couldn’t exchange, with him, even2 5% of our joint experiences.
20.SUTHRAM SRINIVAS and RANGADHAM being backstage players, they were busy doing a lot of serious stuff.
21.SUMAN:We missed you in the closing meet.
22.SPY SHOOTER:While the stage performers have thrilled the audiences during the show,it is now the time for SPY SHOOTERS in action.Kudos to PPR.
23.DUBAI SEENU:Anunu baabooo mana Dubai Seenu........ade.....mana...Ramakrishna.......kuda ekkado time cycle miss ayyaadu.....ageing kanabaduta ledu.Mari SV Dayakar sangati koste.........akka dakkadaa juttu lo telupu rangu vesuku kochchaadu......aaanaati Indira Gandhi laaga.........veediki boththi gaaa vayasu vachchi nattu ledu.
There is only one thing Raju has failed to do……….He has not added some more hours into a 24-hour day!!!
Sivakumar
